Amy is a seasoned yoga and meditation instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience. She holds 500 E-RYT and RPYT certifications and is celebrated for her clear instruction, smart sequencing, and warm, approachable style. Known for her ability to connect deeply with her students, Amy fosters individual growth within a group setting and builds community through a shared passion for personal development, health, and well-being. 

Amy specializes in vinyasa flow yoga, offering classes that range from uplifting and challenging to restorative and grounding, ensuring accessibility for all levels. She excels in making classes equally engaging for seasoned practitioners while accommodating newcomers and those with physical limitations.

Amy’s contributions to the yoga community are extensive. She has been a key instructor for the renowned Yogaview yoga teacher training program, created her own prenatal teacher training, developed the yoga program at Northwestern Hospital, and launched the Yoga for Recovery initiative, which brings prenatal yoga to expectant inmates at Cook County Jail in Chicago. 

In addition to her yoga practice, Amy is a DONA-certified birth doula, Reiki healer, and mother of three children. She splits her time between Chicago and Los Angeles. You can learn more at amyowenyoga.com.

What inspired you to teach yoga?

Yoga and meditation have been such a gift in my own life. These practices have helped me ride the waves of life, and I wanted to share them with others.

How would you describe your classes?

Approachable and accessible yet challenging

Why do you feel retreats are transformational?

Retreats afford us the time to slow down and take care of ourselves. They give us the space for deepening our practice and also for self-inquiry and reflection. I have gained my biggest revelations while retreating.

Far-flung places where the culture, the people, and the topography are completely different from mine.
