The Wondrous World of Oaxaca

Ann has taught international yoga retreats for over 20 years, but Mexico remains her one true love ever since living there as a young girl. On this retreat, Ann takes us to Mexico’s most dazzling city, the UNESCO Heritage site of Oaxaca. Home to over 19 ethnic groups, Oaxaca is legendary for its deliciously diverse cuisine, exquisitely colorful crafts, and pre-Hispanic sites.  One of Mexico’s most beautiful cities, Oaxaca will be dressed up for the holidays, sparkling with Christmas lights, her streets filled with celebratory spirit and candlelit processions in honor of the Day of Guadalupe. Together we will practice daily yoga, enjoy exquisite meals, and take group excursions, while still having plenty of free time to explore this technicolor town on our own. Renew your love of life, come see the world through Oaxacan-colored glasses.

Caravana Canina, Oaxaca
IY Travel Impact

Since 2015, Thread Caravan has been facilitating cultural art workshops in rural communities plagued by high street dog populations. Out of this initiative, Caravana Canina naturally emerged to address pressing community needs. With a focus on spaying and neutering as a long-term solution to combat neglect and abuse, the project has also provided crucial care such as feeding, vaccination, deworming, fostering, and adoption. Over 159 dogs have found new homes, 484 have undergone spaying and neutering procedures, and countless others have received essential care in Mexico.

At International Yoga, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment. Unexpected events—such as personal, political, environmental, health, or weather-related incidents—can arise that may prevent or interrupt your travels. Without travel insurance, you will be responsible for 100% of any costs associated with the cancellation or interruption of your retreat.

While we do not advise on specific policies, we recommend exploring options through the reputable travel insurance aggregator, InsureMyTrip. They can help you select a travel insurance provider and policy that best suits your needs.

For maximum coverage, most travel insurance providers require purchasing a policy within 7–10 days of placing your initial deposit. We encourage you to act promptly to secure comprehensive protection for your retreat.

Tips for the kitchen, dining & housekeeping staff are not included in your trip price. We suggest that you budget $15 per day/person or $100 per week/person. This will be shared amongst all the service staff. You may leave this with the manager at the end of your stay. Gratuities for the spa staff need to be paid directly to them at the time of service. All gratuities should be paid in cash.

Do I need a visa for travel to Mexico?

No, acquiring a visa prior to your travel to Mexico is not required. During the flight to Oaxaca you will be given documentation to fill out which you will then need to present to the immigration official upon your entry into Mexico. BE SURE YOU KEEP THIS PIECE OF PAPER FOR YOUR DEPARTURE. You will be asked for this upon check-in for your return flight home. If you do not have this piece of paper there will be a fine and the hassle of redoing all of this paperwork on the spot!

Does my travel require any vaccinations?

There are no required vaccinations for travel to Mexico. However, there are some recommended (suggested) vaccinations given by the CDC. To see the complete list of what is recommended, please visit the CDC Website and consult with your primary care physician to make a decision on what is best for you.

What is the weather like in Oaxaca?

In December, Oaxaca enjoys mild and pleasant weather, with daytime highs typically ranging from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit. Evenings can be cooler, with temperatures dropping to the mid-50s, so bringing a light jacket or sweater is recommended. December is part of the dry season, so rain is rare, making it an ideal time to explore the region’s vibrant landscapes and cultural treasures.
