The Heart + Soul of Ireland

The Heart + Soul of Ireland

There’s an Irish saying: bíonn siúlach scéalach, “travelers have tales to tell.” On this trip to Éire — Ireland’s original name honoring the Gaelic goddess of abundance— we will ride the Celtic spirit of living life to its fullest to bring home stories to tell the rest of our lives. We will go beyond the clichés of shamrocks and leprechauns to discover the true heart of this fertile isle and the soul of its people. Together we will explore Ireland’s deep mythologies and lyrical storytelling, traditional arts and contemporary crafts, breath-taking sights, and friendly pubs.

Voted among the Top Ten Travel Destinations of 2024 by Lonely Planet, Ireland is now an international contemporary culinary capital, a point of special pride given its history of famine. We will be making our home at a charming, elegantly-appointed Irish country house set on a 300-acre estate that boasts its own Michelin-star restaurant and cooking school. We will come together for daily yoga in the estate’s stunningly refurbished stone barn and go out on excursions together to explore the many dimensions of Ireland, including the hip and historic city of Cork, the quaint coastal town of Kinsale, and the legendary Killarney National Park.  During our week there will be plenty of free time to rest, dream, wander the estate, and come home to yourself.  When the time comes to return home, it will be with an Irish blessing in our hearts: “Wherever you go and whatever you do, may the luck of the Irish be there with you!”

American citizens visiting Ireland do not need a visa if they travel as a tourist with a valid U.S. passport. You will be issued a temporary tourist visa upon entry. This is valid for up to 90 days.

What are the accommodations like?

Ballymaloe House Hotel, located in the serene countryside of Shanagarry, County Cork, is a celebrated country house offering a blend of historic charm and modern comfort. Known for its warm hospitality, the hotel features beautifully appointed rooms, lush gardens, and a renowned restaurant serving seasonal, locally sourced cuisine. What is the cancellation policy for this retreat?

A $1000 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot on the trip. The final balance payment is due by January 24, 2025. If you cancel before the final balance deadline we will refund any payments you have made, minus the non-refundable deposit. If you do not complete the payment on your own by that date, the card on file will be automatically charged your remaining balance. If you register for the trip after January 24, 2025. the full amount is due at sign-up.  All payments are non-refundable and non-transferable after January 24, 2025. International Yoga must strictly adhere to its cancellation policy to offset costs incurred before the commencement of the retreat. Click here to view the Terms and Conditions to which you agree upon registration.

If you wish to cancel your participation in this program you must advise International Yoga in writing to: [email protected].

How many people are expected on this retreat?

Since we have a limited number of rooms available for this trip the maximum number of travelers we can accommodate on this retreat is 25.

Are meals included?

Early morning daily herbal tea & fruit will be offered in the Grainstore before yoga, in addition to daily breakfast, 3 lunches, and 4 gourmet, multi-course dinners. All other meals should be included in your planned budget.

What if I'm traveling alone?

We love to welcome solo travelers on our retreats! Most solo travelers prefer to book a single room, however, if you prefer to share a room, we will do our best to match you with another traveler of the same gender. If we are unable to find you a roommate, however, a single supplement will apply based on the difference in room costs. You will be notified 2 to 3 weeks before the start of the retreat if we haven't been able to match you with a roommate and we will send you an updated invoice at that time.

Are gratuities included?

Gratuities are not included in the price of your trip. Tipping in Ireland is appreciated but not always expected. In restaurants, it is customary to leave a tip of about 10-15% if the service is good, although some establishments may include a service charge on the bill, in which case an additional tip is not necessary. For other services, such as taxi drivers or hotel staff, rounding up the fare or leaving a small tip is considered polite but not obligatory. We suggest a budget of around $10/day per guest.

Do I need travel insurance?

International Yoga strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance. A personal, political, environmental, health, or weather-related incident may arise that can prevent or interrupt your travels. If you do not purchase travel insurance you will be assuming 100% of any costs associated with the cancellation/ interruption of your retreat. While we cannot advise on specific travel insurance policies, we recommend looking at plans through the reputable travel insurance provider, Travelex. The FAQ section at the bottom of their website is quite helpful, and they have a number you can call as well. Note that to guarantee maximum coverage, most travel insurance providers require that you obtain a policy within 10 - 15 days of placing your initial deposit.

Included: 6 nights accommodation, private airport transfers, morning snacks, daily breakfast, 3 lunches, 4 gourmet multi-course dinners, 3 curated cultural group excursions, VAT tax

Not Included: Airfare, meals and activities not listed above, travel insurance, gratuities
